Need help with GH readings

Postby 11111 » 24 Nov 2009, 20:34

Hi, My husband has a pituitary tumor. He has had surgery last May with some they could not get. The GH reading has been hard. First the insurance would not pay for it since his IGF 1 was 175. The pituitary Doc still told us that he is in need of GH with pituitary damage. He took the stimulation test which showed he was 0.1 (very low). Now the insurance will cover it. After six months after surgery he had a IGF 1 of 316. He has been on GH replacement for 5 months. If his IGF 1 was 176 (middle high) but the stimulation test showed 0.1 (low). How can you get a proper reading? Now they are saying he is to high but I bet if he had the stimulation test again it would be normal. This is very confusing. The doc said that he goes off the IGF 1 reading but before he didn't and said he was in need of it. Not to sure what to make of it. He IGF 1 was middle high in the first place. Any advise?

Hi 11111,

Would a letter to the nsurance company coming from Pituitary Chat be of any use to you?

Hi Paul,
The insurance is paying for it but it is the docs that are confusing me. Please reread it regarding the GH.

The Stimulation test is more accurate in determining the GH reserve. The IGF-1 is a 5 week average. I found a clip on U Tube a dr. in Alabama did on GHD. He test any 170 and below. I am researching myself and it is always the stim test that determines if one is deficient.

Let me know if that is not correct.
