Quiz

Postby Vlal » 03 Dec 2009, 00:50

I was thinking - a while ago - about whether it would be possible to organise some form of quiz... where everyone paid X per quiz sheet/entry and there was a prize for the person with the highest score/picked out of the hat type thing...
Perhaps we could get somewhere/somebody to donate the prize so that funds from entry could go towards Pit Chat.

Does this make any sense? :?

Hello there! Sorry for the delay in replying-I have only just found your posting. As a volunteer for the Pituitary Foundation my Dad & I compiled a Bird Quiz which was sold at £1 per quiz nationwide & we raised £1000! It is a great idea as long as you have a willing body to do the questions, one to check & edit, one to arrange the printing (it cost nearly £100 for that alone), one to donate the prizes, you need to be able to download it (have no idea how that is done) or receive copies through the post & I am sure there are hidden costs which I have forgotten. But if you have the time & know others who can help you it is well worth looking into further. x

FYI,

I have a quiz already made up on an access file which I used to use regularly on fun raising evenings in pubs. The questions are not the norm and are designed either to get a laugh, or to have the person slap his/her forehead going "Of Course!" when they hear the answer.

Pub quizes used to be accompanied by raffles / auctions / treasure hunts / etc, all of whom had a twist, for exaple, I auctioned a nun;s underear one evening for over £100. (She had not planned on selling them and was wearing them at the time) etc. The quiz itself did not raise a lot of money however, the raffles / buckets / etc. proved fruitful. The average night would see about £1,800 raised and great fun had by all.

A 24 hour darts marathon in Reading a number of years back saw £27,000+ raised in one day.

It is easy to raise money. Two years ago, I raised €127,000 in two weeks from a hospice bed! The trick is to aim high.

If anyone wants a copy of the quiz, they are welcome.

I think one volunteer member who has an hour or so a week to spare to co-ordinate and push fund raising would be great.

Take a look at the revenue stream from the Pituitary Foundation and see where it is coming from. Once our web site goes live, we are offering rverything they are and more except we are not taking money for membership, the members decide where the money goes and we don't spend members money on plush offices or wages - EVERY PENNY goes back to the members.

Regards,

Paul

Hi again
This morning I received a Newsletter from the Children's South West & it has lots of good ideas for fund raising. Would you like me to send it to you Vicky-Louise? Pm me your address if you do. x
